We’ll help you compare the siding, trim, installation, upkeep and warranty details so you can choose what works for your home.

A siding option worth comparing
We install Allura siding for homeowners in Freeport and the surrounding communities. In our quotes, Allura siding with MiraTEC trim generally costs less than James Hardie siding with HardieTrim. That can make a difference when you’re replacing a whole exterior. We’ll explain how the trim, installation requirements and warranty coverage differ, so you know what you’re choosing.
What Allura and James Hardie have in common
Both brands make fiber-cement siding. Allura describes its material as a combination of cellulose fiber, sand, silica, and Portland cement. Its range includes lap siding, panels, and shakes, with smooth and woodgrain options depending on the product. That gives us room to plan a simple horizontal exterior, board-and-batten siding, or an accent in the gables.
James Hardie also makes fiber-cement siding. Its HZ10 products were developed for hot, humid areas, and Florida is within the HZ10 warranty coverage area. Both brands have their own installation requirements. We pay close attention to those details whichever siding you choose.

The trim deserves its own comparison
MiraTEC is a treated wood-composite trim made with wood fibers, resin, a wood preservative, and water-repellent ingredients. It can be cut and shaped with woodworking tools, which is useful for detailed trim work. The manufacturer describes it as a single-piece board without laminated layers.
HardieTrim is fiber cement. Choosing it with Hardie siding keeps the siding and trim within that material family. It still needs careful handling, protected cut edges, proper flashing, and clearance from standing water. Fiber cement is not a reason to overlook those details.
MiraTEC is wood-based, so keeping moisture out is important. Its instructions call for priming and painting exposed ends cut on the job, coating exposed bottom edges, and keeping the trim at least six inches above the finished ground level. Poor finishing or continual moisture can cause early deterioration. We’ll explain the finishing steps and ongoing care so you can plan for both.

Water needs a way out
Water needs a clear way out above windows, along rooflines and where siding meets trim. Allura’s instructions call for flashing that works with the drainage system, including an open gap above horizontal flashing. It can be tempting to caulk every gap, but some need to stay open so water can escape. When we use Allura with MiraTEC trim, we follow the requirements for both products.
Reading the warranties clearly
The headline number is only part of the comparison:
• Allura Lap, Panel, Shake, and Soffit have a 30-year transferable limited product warranty. The listed remedies exclude labor and accessory-material costs. Its exclusions include damage attributable to water infiltration, hurricanes, and salt-spray exposure. For a coastal home, those details are worth reviewing alongside the product choice. Allura's written warranty
• MiraTEC has a 50-year limited warranty with a declining reimbursement schedule after the first five years. It excludes labor and damage associated with prolonged water contact, improper finishing, or inadequate maintenance. A longer term does not mean every repair expense is covered. MiraTEC warranty
• The February 2024 Hardie HZ10 warranty covers the listed siding products and HardieTrim HZ10 boards for 30 years. Product coverage is non-prorated, but labor is excluded, and installation and storm-related exclusions apply. Hardie HZ10 written warranty
Paint and factory finishes have separate coverage from these product warranties. We’ll need to check the exact product, finish and purchase date to understand what applies.
Finding the right fit for your home
If you’re hoping to keep the cost down, Allura siding with MiraTEC trim is worth a look. James Hardie siding with HardieTrim generally costs more in our estimates, but gives you fiber cement for both the siding and trim. We’re happy to explain the differences and help you decide where your money is best spent.
Plan for ongoing care with either choice. Keep an eye on the paint and caulk, and make sure water can drain away. MiraTEC recommends checking its trim once a year so you can catch small problems early.
You don’t need to have it all figured out before you call! We’ll go over the siding, trim and finish with you, explain what’s included, and answer your questions.
